You have a vision for your infrastructure: scalable, efficient, and ready for what’s next. VMware Cloud Foundation can get you there, but only if it’s deployed well. The difference between a smooth deployment and a stalled one usually comes down to the team doing the work.

What slows VCF deployments down

VCF brings compute, storage, networking, and management together in one platform. That’s its strength, and also what makes deployment demanding. Every layer has to be planned, built, and integrated correctly, or problems spread across the whole stack. Common obstacles include:

  • Skipping readiness checks. Hardware compatibility gaps and configuration problems that surface mid-build lead to delays and unplanned fixes.
  • Designs that don’t account for growth. An architecture that works on day one can become a constraint as workloads and business needs grow.
  • Inconsistent build practices. When sites or teams build differently, the environment becomes harder to manage, secure, and scale.
  • Gaps in hands-on experience across the full VCF stack. Deploying NSX, vSAN, workload domains, and lifecycle management together takes more than familiarity with vSphere.
  • Disruptive migrations and weak handoffs. Moving workloads off legacy environments is risky, and a platform your team can’t confidently run won’t deliver its full value.

These problems are real. One government agency we worked with bought VCF several years before ClearBridge got involved, but hardware issues and limited staff knowledge kept it out of production. Over time, that slowly wore down their confidence in the platform. With guidance from a ClearBridge senior consultant, the agency deployed the entire VCF stack and moved all workloads off its legacy vSphere environments. It declared VCF its production environment and began offering private cloud services to other organizations within the agency.

How we approach it

ClearBridge invests heavily in building VCF deployment expertise across our entire organization, not just a few specialists. We follow a proven path from assessment to handoff, so each phase sets up the next one to succeed.

  1. Confirm readiness before the build begins
Every strong deployment starts with knowing what you’re working with. For one client preparing for VCF 9, a ClearBridge senior consultant ran a full readiness assessment. The work covered compute, storage, and networking configurations, checked hardware against the VMware Hardware Compatibility List, and identified gaps and dependencies before they could cause delays. The client came away with a prioritized roadmap and moved forward with greater certainty.
  2. Design for where you’re going
A good architecture reflects your business goals, not just today’s workloads. In one engagement, a ClearBridge architect led collaborative design workshops. The architect produced high-level and detailed VCF 9 designs covering workload domains, NSX, vSAN policies, fleet management, and SDDC integration. The result was a scalable, resilient architecture and a standardized roadmap that stakeholders could align behind.
  3. Build it right, even in demanding environments
Our engineers bring hands-on experience from real-world builds. For a private cloud modernization effort, a ClearBridge consultant built, integrated, and validated the VCF 9 management and workload domains, including NSX and vSAN. The consultant also resolved deployment challenges along the way and delivered a stable, production-ready environment. In a highly regulated government setting, a Secret-cleared ClearBridge consultant assessed the existing environment, built a compliant deployment plan, and led the full-stack VCF 9.x implementation to meet strict security and operational requirements.
  4. Migrate with less disruption and leave your team ready
Deployment isn’t the finish line. For another client, ClearBridge deployed VCF, led workload migrations, and supported operational readiness with knowledge transfer and best practices. That reduced migration risk and gave the internal team confidence in running the new environment day to day.

Repeatable by design
Consistency is what makes speed sustainable. Our teams use standardized approaches and, where it fits, automation. In one engagement, a ClearBridge consultant built VMware Aria Automation workflows, service catalogs, and reusable blueprints within VCF, backed by infrastructure as code. The result was faster provisioning, more consistent builds, and less manual effort. Because our expertise is shared across teams, lessons from one project carry into the next.

What you get

Consistent expertise shows up in the results:

  • Faster progress: proven approaches cut down on rework and guesswork.
  • Fewer surprises: readiness checks and validated designs catch problems early.
  • An environment built to scale: architecture that matches where your business is going.
  • A team ready to run it: documentation and knowledge transfer for Day 1 and Day 2 operations.

You get to the value of VCF sooner and with more confidence.

How ClearBridge helps

From readiness assessment and design through deployment, migration, and handoff, ClearBridge helps you turn your plans for a scalable, efficient enterprise environment into a platform you can rely on. That holds whether you’re starting fresh, upgrading to VCF 9, or finally getting a stalled deployment into production.
