Sr OpenStack Engineer

Our client, a large professional services firm, is looking to hire an experienced OpenStack Engineer for a 6 month contract.  The consultant will work remote leading infrastructure transformation initiatives, focusing on a VMware-to-OpenStack migration and management of large-scale cloud deployments.  The ideal candidate will bring technical depth across OpenStack components while demonstrating strong communication and leadership skills. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement VMware to OpenStack migration workflows, including VM conversion and network reconfiguration
  • Manage and optimize large-scale OpenStack deployments, focusing on performance, reliability, and security
  • Design and implement automation solutions using Ansible, Terraform, and OpenStack Heat
  • Oversee bare metal provisioning using Ironic or MaaS
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Cinder storage systems, particularly with Pure Storage clusters
  • Implement and manage container technologies integrated with our OpenStack environment
  • Develop comprehensive monitoring solutions aligned with SRE principles
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Mentor junior team members and share knowledge across the organization

Required Skills:

  • 6-10 years of experience with proven expertise with OpenStack architecture, deployment, and upgrades in production environments
  • Strong Linux systems administration and networking knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience with Cinder and Pure Storage clusters
  • Proficiency in Python programming for automation and customization
  • Experience with bare metal provisioning using Ironic or MaaS
  • Practical knowledge of HashiCorp tools, particularly Vault and Terraform
  • Strong foundation in CI/CD practices using tools like Jenkins and Git
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and other container technologies
  • Familiarity with Cisco UCS hardware configurations and management
  • Experience implementing monitoring solutions, SLIs, and SLOs following SRE practices
