Our client, a professional services firm, is looking to hire a SolarWinds Consultant for a 40-hour project spread across 2-3 weeks. This is a remote project where the customer has bought SolarWinds, installed it, but done no configuration at all.
The consultant will be focused on guiding the configuration in 3 major modules:
Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
- Review polling intervals, completion rates, and SNMP/WMI settings for efficiency.
- Identify and optimize high-latency pollers to improve monitoring accuracy.
- Assess and refine default performance thresholds for interface utilization, packet loss, latency, and CPU/memory usage.
- Validate and optimize alerting rules to reduce false positives and ensure critical notifications are prioritized.
- NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA)
- Validate NetFlow source devices (routers, switches, firewalls) and check ingestion rates
- Assess data retention policies for historical analysis and ensure optimal sampling rates.
- Analyze traffic patterns to identify bandwidth-heavy applications, security risks, and shadow IT.
- Optimize alerting policies for high-bandwidth utilization, abnormal protocol usage, and traffic spikes.
Network Configuration Manager (NCM)
- Ensure critical device configurations are regularly backed up and identify missing devices.
- Review configuration change tracking, compliance policies (CIS, NIST, PCI), and role-based access controls (RBAC).
- Assess automation capabilities for bulk deployments (VLANs, ACLs, firmware updates) and identify efficiency improvements.
Required Skills:
- Strong consulting background with all 3 modules for SolarWinds – Network Performance Monitor, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, Network Configuration Manager
- Must have strong consultative background to help grow product and support footprint
