Our client, a professional services firm, is looking to hire a remote Network Automation/NetOps Engineer for a one month remote contract with chance of extension into multiple phases. The core of this work involves leveraging the open-source TIG stack (Telegraf, InfluxDB, Grafana) to collect, normalize, and visualize performance data from a diverse set of network devices, including Cisco and Arista hardware. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of traditional networking concepts and a proven track record of implementing modern, code-based observability solutions to provide actionable insights for our client’s network team.
Required Skills:
- Deep Networking Expertise: Strong background in traditional networking, with specific, hands-on experience with Cisco and Arista network devices.
- Observability Stack: Hands-on experience with the TIG stack is a must. This includes:
- Telegraf: Expert-level knowledge of configuring Telegraf to collect metrics from a variety of sources, including devices from different vendors that expose data differently. Experience with custom plugins or scripts for data collection is a strong plus.
- Grafana: The ability to build unified, multi-vendor dashboards and set up automated alerting rules to transform raw data into actionable insights.
- Collaborative Approach: The ability to work closely with the client’s network team to transfer knowledge and enable them to manage the new stack independently.
Desired Skills:
- Data Normalization: Proven ability to standardize data from diverse sources with inconsistent naming conventions.
- InfluxDB: Proficiency in defining and populating data schemas within InfluxDB to store and manage time-series data.
- Automation & IaC: Experience with code-based deployments and configuration management, enabling a programmatic approach to the TIG stack and network devices. Knowledge of tools like Ansible or Terraform is highly desirable.
